Lake of the Ozarks Shootout 2010 & 2011

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout has become one of the most popular boating events in the USA and brings some of the fastest boats in the world to the Ozarks region. While unsanctioned, it draws crowds of up to 70,000 people and benefits great local charities like the Lake Area Rescue Teams and Habitat for Humanity. The event takes place at Captain Ron's Bar and Grill located on Lake Road and is eagerly awaited by boaters throughout the country.

To compete, boats need to be at least 22 feet long. The boats are judged in over fifty categories which include hull design, size, motor size, weight, and horsepower. Those that qualify to compete will run a mile in the water while being clocked by judges. Since the boats run one at a time, this event has an edge of drama as each boat is competing against the clock to see who gets the fastest time.

Shootout 2010 & 2011 at the Lake of the Ozarks -- Continue

One reason why the Lake of the Ozarks is such an ideal venue for this event is because of the massive surface are of the lake. At over 55,000 acres, the Lake of the Ozarks is among the largest man made lakes in the Midwest and while 200 mile per hour boats make an impact, it is still possible to find a cover somewhere on the lake's 1,100 miles of shoreline where you won't hear, see, or catch a ripple from the race. That means that those who are in the Ozarks just to find some quiet time or to do a little fishing, won't be bothered unless they want to be.

Of course, in reality, nobody want's to miss the fun of Captain Ron's Shootout. Those with boats can watch from the water and will find boats with food, cold drinks, and snacks coming out from Captain Ron's Bar and Grill to provide what they need. The shores are also loaded with food stalls, exhibitions, refreshments, and live music for the crowds. Many of the resorts and hotels in the region offer special packages with discounted tickets for those interested.

Coinciding with the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is the Annual Shootout Benefit Golf Tournament and Dam Run and a Shootout Charity Auction with more than $25,000 worth of goods and services on the auction block. There really is something for everyone at this incredible boat racing event. This year, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout happens from August 26th to August 29th. Don't miss it!
