Lake of the Ozarks Local Events

To list all the local events that take place in the Lake of the Ozarks would take about the same amount of space as the Encyclopedia Britannica. There are literally hundreds of websites, magazines, and bureaus that publish detailed calendars and information about what is happening in the area. A good place to start your search is to check with the state parks and local tourism bureaus. From there you can spread your search out to the four corners of the lake. Of course that means more than 1,100 miles of shoreline, so it might take you a while!

An easier option is to just step out the door of where you are staying and take a walk until you find something that strikes your fancy. Don't worry, you'll definitely find something. Shopping events, sporting events, competitions, music, drama, family gatherings, story telling festivals, pow wows, and much more are always happening in the Ozarks region.

Prior to Europeans coming to the Americas, the Osage tribe called this area home. For centuries they were drawn here because of the great advantages of wildlife, water, and weather. It's only been for a little more than a century since settlers came and the Osage are still here too. The combined and separate history of the pioneers and those who preceded them juxtapose to create the unique culture and heritage that lives on at the Lake of the Ozarks. One event visitors and locals alike love is the annual Osage Tribal Pow Wow.

Among other events that draw visitors here are golf tournaments and fishing derbies. Water related events such as regattas and speed boat races also are big draws. Each May the annual Harbor Hop is looked forward to by young and old alike. There are many fishing tournaments, but the most famous is the Red Oak which is held every June.

Weekly, there are farmer's markets, master gardeners sessions , and countless recurring events which you can find listed in local brochures.

Annual festivals and events include the World's Largest Pontoon Boat Party, the Miss Planet Beach Model Search, the Missouri Wine Festival, Hot Summer Nights Cruises, the Old Thyme Apple Festival, the Big Bass Bash, the Osage Beach Fall Festival, and as if that isn't enough the Ozarks Jazz Society regularly programs events and concerts too!

Of course, some things you won't find out about unless you make the effort to contact the towns where they are happening. The local Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureaus in the towns around the Lake of the Ozarks are a great place to get the latest insider information on what is happening around the lake. One thing is for sure, you won't be bored!

The Lake of the Ozarks Offshore Super Series National Race brings some of the fastest boats in the world to the 55,000 acres of the lake and the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout brings boats that get up to 196 miles per hour that will thrill adults and kids alike.
