Lake of the Ozarks Hunting
While the Lake of the Ozarks is a well known fishing and boating spot to most people. Many are not aware that the areas around the Lake of the Ozarks also offer some of the best hunting in the Midwest. The Missouri Department of Conservation carefully regulates the seasons and permit process to make sure that local populations are kept safe and at suitable levels for sustainability. Visitor hunters and resident hunters need to obtain a permit from the department prior to setting out. Permits can be obtained online or acquired through the Missouri Department of Conservation offices located throughout the communities surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks.
Hunting areas include farmlands and open fields and property owners often encourage hunters to hunt within their property. Deer and turkey can be found ranging upon state conservation land and deep within the commercial forests which provide a great amount of the timber harvested in the state of Missouri. folks in Missouri generally look kindly on hunters, but one thing they won't tolerate is the mixture of alcohol and firearms. It is a state offense if you discharge a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, so make sure you don't do it.
The hunting seasons are primarily based on the availability of the game. For turkey, it's spring and fall. Deer season is year round though there are specific periods for archers, black powder, and muzzle loading rifles. Squirrel season is February to May and rabbits are available from October to February. From September to January are the peak times for migratory birds. So you see, the Lake of the Ozarks is a hunter's paradise year round too.
