With the creation of the Bagnell Dam in 1931, the rural area now known as the Lake of the Ozarks became a vacation and tourist destination extraordinaire. The fun and exciting things to do here include fishing, boating, amusement rides, a vibrant nightlife, and more than 1,100 miles of coastline and wilderness areas that will satisfy even the most demanding outdoors enthusiasts.
It was in the 1930's that saw the first small fishing lodges start to appear along the shore. Mostly they catered to fishermen, but before long they found themselves overwhelmed with families looking for a place to enjoy their annual vacations. From the original wood hulled fishing boats, it wasn't long before water skiing, jet boats, and houseboats appeared on the lake too. All of that meant that there was more reason for hotels to start increasing their room numbers and soon the bigger hotel companies were moving in too!
Today you don't have to go very far to find a hotel around the Lake of the Ozarks and you can find one that not only suits your vacation, but that also suits your budget.
