Lake of the Ozarks Camping

Most visitors to the Lake of the Ozarks region rent hotels, houseboats, or log cabins, but all that means is that the camping here remains some of the greatest in the United States. Sure, many visitors like to spend their time in a villa or condo, but they're missing out on going to sleep in a grassy meadow, looking up at stars unmarked by the lights of civilization, and waking up to the gorgeous natural scenery that Missouri is so well known for.

From towering limestone cliffs to forested hills, nature is alive and well near the sparkling waters of the Lake of the Ozarks. There are campgrounds that allow you to sleep in wide open spaces or under the sheltering limbs of ancient trees. Those who prefer to camp in a motor home won't be disappointed. From camping resorts to wilderness adventures, the Lake of the Ozarks region has more than enough variety in the ways people camp to suit every need. Want a clubhouse and pool to play in? No problem. Want to get a wilderness camping permit and hike back to where the wildlife lives? That's no problem either. From stocked fishing ponds to swimming ponds, you'll find it all here.

There are a few things to keep in mind though as you start to plan your great escape to the wonderland of the outdoors. Have a look at the State Parks to make sure that you know and understand the regulations and seasons. Another factor to consider is hunting season and the dry times of the year when open flames are often not permitted.

RV users will find plenty of hook ups with electricity, sewer, and everything else that motor campers need. Most campgrounds limit your stay to 15 nights and it is strongly recommended that you stay no fewer than two nights so you can see what each area has to offer. If you are planning to bring your pets, just be sure that you understand that cleaning up after them is mandatory and leashes are required in many area.

One more reason to camp in the Lake of the Ozarks is to get the coveted certificate and patch that the State Park rangers award to those who camp in five parks in a single year. Not that you need another reason, the beauty of nature in the Lake of the Ozarks is more than reason enough.
