On the Lake of the Ozarks, you can find just about every type of boat there is. Huge boats anywhere from 24' to 100' fill the lake in addition to smaller sailboats, personal watercraft, pontooon boats, canoes, and kayaks. If you don't have a boat, don't worry. There's no shortage of boat dealers who are willing to let you fulfill your dreams of becoming a skipper, without having to foot the hefty price tag of a yacht.
To rent a boat on the Lake of the Ozarks, it's good to think ahead. Rental rates vary according to when you want to rent, what you what to rent, and for how long. Most dealers rent boats by the hour but there are some who offer longer term rentals from days to weeks. Be sure that you understand how the safety equipment works, how to navigate and operate the boats, and what sorts of additional features the vessels may have such as trolling motors, live wells, anchors, sonar, or specialized navigation equipment.

Arrive early to pick up your rental and take the time to go through the entire boat and make sure that everything works the way it is supposed to. Dealers have standardized tests which keep things in top shape, but it's always better to make sure because sometimes even the best of professionals can miss something. Document and take pictures of any problem areas such as dents, dings, and scratches. You don't want to be charged for damage someone else may have causes.
Fuel is available in dozens of spots on the lake and most filling stations are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm or during the low season from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drinking and operating boats on the lake is just as illegal as drinking and driving your car so if you plan to indulge in adult beverages, make sure you have a designated driver. Safety is a huge concern and the Lake Patrol will gladly arrest and prosecute those who are endangering themselves or others. Be safe and enjoy the boater's paradise known as the Lake of the Ozarks.
