Lake of the Ozarks
Annual Poker Run 2010 & 2011
Over the past several years the Lake of the Ozarks Annual Poker Run has become a favorite event with locals and visitors. Last year more than 120 boats took part in the poker run and nearly 400 boaters were competing to win more than $5,000 in prizes. In addition to having fun, great prizes, and enjoying the beautiful outdoor opportunities on the Lake of the Ozarks, the event raised $15,000 for Operation Home Front.
Everyone who took part had a great time. Kids, families, dogs, and veterans and servicemen who knew they not only competing for prizes but also to help fund a good cause. Operation Home-Front was born in the wake of the September 11th bombings and provides emotional, mental, and financial assistance to service members and their families who are involved in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since the charity was founded it has provided more than $92 million dollars in relief and assisting military families, wounded veterans who return home, and in some cases helping families to make ends meet because reservists have not been released from active military service to return to their regular jobs and incomes. So, as you can see, this is a cause to feel good about.

Annual Poker Run 2010 & 2011 at the Lake of the Ozarks -- Continue
Another thing to feel good about is the fun that will follow yo u on the poker run. This is a rain or shine event and once you register to participate online you are hooked in. There will be no refunds based on bad weather, but come on, when is there ever bad weather at the Lake of the Ozarks? Entry is limited to 150 boats so early registration is recommended.
Once the poker run begins, participants will be able to choose from two short routes or you can compete to complete the entire run and have the chance to win prizes in a big draw at the awards dinner. The dinner is held at the Dog Days Bar & Grill and is usually almost as fun as the poker run itself. Prize money is split between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places with each winning $2500, $1000, and $500 respectively. Since in a poker run there is rarely a discard draw, bluffing, or bidding winning is usually a matter of pure chance but the fun is in going on the run itself.
Sometimes it can be lucky to be unlucky and the worst hand of the event wins the holder a special $100 prize gift certificate for the Dog Days Bar & Grill as a consolation for picking up such awful cards. Sometimes you can win for losing!
