Lake of the Ozarks
Annual Garden Walk
Working with a variety of local organizations, the master gardeners have created an event that has become a top draw to those who like to see ornamental plants, flowers, vegetables, and fruits growing in the fertile soils surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks. It's not just the gardens you will see on this walk either. Playgrounds, restoration projects, innovative new techniques, and interactive planting areas are all included in this community benefiting event that happens each June.
The Lake of the Ozarks is a four season paradise and there is always something growing. Green houses, climate controlled projects, winter crops and flowers, and of course, the stunning burst of floral displays that pop up each spring and continue to soothe and delight visitors who participate in this event. The gardens of the Ozarks are considered to be some of the most interesting in the world and contain thousands of varieties of succulents, trees, shrubs, and flowers from all over the globe.

Annual Garden Walk at the Lake of the Ozarks -- Continue
The event was first created by the Lake Area Master Gardeners as a chance for the top gardeners in the Ozarks to come together and share their ideas, successes, and work with one another during a series of talks and walks. The community has benefited greatly from this event as quite a few public works projects have been born out of this collaboration.
The 5th Annual Garden Walk will take place June 5th of 2011 in Eldon, Missouri from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. During this time the Master Gardeners will lead participants through the years theme. In 2010, the theme was “Gateway to Gardening” and focused on getting those who have never gotten their hands dirty with soil finding a way to break one of the world's most soothing and relaxing hobbies. The pros shared plenty of tips and tricks for amateurs to try at home and was a huge success.
Ticket prices are $10 and part of the proceeds are used to benefit local charities. In 2010, the chosen charities were Medical Missions of Christ and the Ozark Brush and Paletee Scholarship fund. The charities are chosen by the Master Gardeners based on the work they do in the area. It's a good chance for visitors to do something fun and have a positive impact on this beautiful region in the process.
So if you are looking for an activity that is fun, educational, offers some great photo opportunities, and benefits a good cause, be sure to schedule time away from all your other fun activities to take part in the Annual Master Gardeners Garden Walk.
